Recognition of Neighbors by Associative Learning in Rufous-sided Towhees
نویسنده
چکیده
ABSTR•1⁄2T.--Previous demonstrations of neighbor vs. non-neighbor discrimination in territorial male passerines have not permitted separation of habituation from associative learning as the basis of the response differences. A few male Rufous-sided Towbees (Pipilo erythrophthalmus) sing unusual songs resembling those of Carolina Wrens (Thryothorus ludovicianus), yet are able to defend territories. Tape recordings of the unusual songs were played back to the neighbors of an imitator and to non-neighboring birds. The neighbors responded strongly and the non-neighbors responded very weakly. This stronger response by neighbors to an unusual song demonstrates the importance of associative learning in individual recognition. Received 23 June 1978, accepted 23 April 1979.

متن کاملAssociative learning and memory duration of Trichogramma brassicae
Learning ability and memory duration are two inseparable factors which can increase theefficiency of a living organism during its lifetime. Trichgramma brassice Bezdenko (Hym.:Trichogrammatidae) is a biological control agent widely used against different pest species. This research was conducted to study the olfactory associative learning ability and memoryduration of T. brassicae under laborato...
متن کاملAdaptive resonance associative map
-This article introduces a neural architecture termed Adaptive Resonance Associative Map ( ARAM) that extends unsupervised Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) systems for rapid, yet stable, heteroassociative learning. ARAM can be visualized as two overlapping ART networks sharing a single category field. Although ARAM is simpler in architecture than another class o f supervised ART models known as ...
متن کاملAN IMPROVED CONTROLLED CHAOTIC NEURAL NETWORK FOR PATTERN RECOGNITION
A sigmoid function is necessary for creation a chaotic neural network (CNN). In this paper, a new function for CNN is proposed that it can increase the speed of convergence. In the proposed method, we use a novel signal for controlling chaos. Both the theory analysis and computer simulation results show that the performance of CNN can be improved remarkably by using our method. By means of this...

Picicola donwebbi, a new species of chewing louse from the Rufous-sided Broadbill (Smithornis rufolateralis Gray, 1864) collected in Ghana, is herewith described and illustrated. This is the first species of Ischnocera recorded from the broadbills (Passeriformes: Eurylaimidae) and, based on morphology, is placed in the Picicola quadripustulosus species group recorded from the Pittidae (Passerif...
